In 2023, El Salvador's net Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) quadrupled, surpassing $759 million, according to the latest update from the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) national accounts.
In this update, there was an upward revision in the FDI for 2022. Initially, the BCR had reported that foreign investment closed that year negatively at -$99.10 million, meaning there was more capital outflow than inflow.
According to the new data, the net FDI was $170.85 million in 2022. Thus, the investment flow in 2023 increased by $588.8 million, marking the highest amount since 2019.
However, it still has not returned to the historical records set in 2017 and 2018, when it exceeded $889.07 million and $826.01 million, respectively.
