El Salvador received 3.4 million visitors last year, a 36% increase compared to the 2.5 million visitors recorded in 2022, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourism (MITUR).
The Minister of Tourism, Morena Valdez, mentioned in a television interview that these visits generated over $3.79 billion in foreign exchange for the local economy, representing a 43% increase compared to 2022. The official linked this figure to the increase in the length of time tourists spent in the country, which rose from three to five nights to an average of 11.
According to data from the Salvadoran Tourism Corporation (CORSATUR), in 2022, $2.646 billion in foreign exchange was generated. Last year, one of the most significant events, which generated over $177 million in foreign exchange for the country, was Miss Universe, according to official sources.
